Badminton - Provisional results

Hi everyone,

Well we have got to the final weeks of Tournament play Yesterday, it's been a short but very intense period of badminton these last few weeks and it has been a pleasure to see so many talented young badminton players at the various age groups.
My thanks to those schools who have hosted over the last few weeks and to those who will be hosting the Championships

Below I have posted the following documents - just click on them to open

Provisional Results of ISSFHK Badminton schedule 2009-10.xls

issfhk_badminton_2008_9_rules_of_competition1.doc.

Refer - making play offs

1. The results I have provided are provisional in some divisions as some games have still yet to be played as teams were unable to attend tournaments. I will update the ISSFHK website & this will contain the official results.

NB. All rescheduled matches must be played by Thursday 15th April

2. Provisional Results - Coaches & AD's please check that I have got the correct information. If I have made an error please let me know.

A few points to Note.

a. U14 Girls - Teams who were to have played HKIS on March 2 have been awarded Walk over wins against HKIS. This is due to HKIS not informing the league within 24hrs that they were not available.
b. U14 Girls - Teams who were or did play TSIS on 16 march have been tentatively awarded walk over wins as TSIS commenced games with only 4 players and the minimum number is 5.
c. U14 Girls - HKIS will reschedule matches with teams they have not played.
d. U14 Boys - HKIS & ICS to reschedule match
e. U16 Boys - HKIS to reschedule matches with AIS, RCHK & VSA
F. U20 boys - A number of recsheduled matches due to HKIS & AISHK unable to make tournaments
H. U20 girls HKIS to reschedule matches with teams.

HKIS absent from Tournaments Week 1 & Week 2

A number of association members have asked a number of questions conerning HKIS non attendance week 1 & week 2 of competition.

1. Week 2 of competition is HKIS had experience week & as result they wouldnt be available for any tournaments during the week. Matches missed would be rescheduled

2. Week 1 absence - was an error in communication between various administrative personel and as a result - HKIS was not able to host & to attend tournaments. Because we were given less than 24 hour notice for U14 Girls matches. Matches were awarded as walk over matches to opposition teams and HKIS will be fined for missing 3 matches. We were given prior warning that U16/ 20 teams would also be absent by a HKIS secreatary who was acting on behalf of the HKIS - these matches would be counted as rescheduled matches & not incur any fines.

Lastly please take the time to check provisional results & email me if you feel something needs correcting

Badminton Week 1 March 1-7

Hi Everyone,

Week One went relatively smoothly with only a few hiccups to the schedule. Hopefully, this week we can iron out one those problems this week.

Updated Schedule for U14 Girls.
My apologies for not ensuring all schools that we had a change in schedule due to YCIS withdrawal. Please use the schdule that is NOW POSTED.

U14 Girls Schedule 4.xls

Tuesday March 9th - Change in Venue U12 Girls.

Games will now be hosted at ICS not RCHK. Therefore, this week U12 & U14 Girls will be playing at ICS. U12 Girls will be in Lower Gym & U14 Girls will be in Upper Gym.
U12 & U14 Boys will be at CDNIS

This was proposed so that schools didnt have to spread themselves over 3 venues, my thanks to Adriaan & Tim who allowed the change to take place.

Wednesday U16 Girls at RCHK & U20 Girls at ICS

Thursday U16 Boys at ICS & U20 Boys at YCIS

HOUSE KEEPING

1. Arriving before 4.00pm teams need to ensure that they arrive early to venues - Games start at 4.00pm. Coaches need to ensure that first games get moving as quickly as possible. If possible teams should share half the court they are assigned to for matches, this will allow single players to warm up.

2. Team score sheets -

Schools to Send only 4.00pm game to hosting school

ICS - Lester whenuaroa - whenuaroal@ics.edu.hk
CDNIS - Michael Balo - MichaelBalo@cdnis.edu.hk
YCIS - Allan Fraser - allanf@hk.ycef.com
RCHK - Adriaan Van Wijk- avanwijk@renaissance.edu.hk

Teams who win matches should pass their score sheet to hosting score so that results can be collated and sent to Lester Whenuaroa.

Schools only need to send in results if they are playing rescheduled matches. Results from mini tournaments will be collated by hosting school.

Results from last week -

U12 Girls & U14 Girls could Schools please send me their results - My apologies & I will update last week results

Please click on link for Tentative Results : Results of ISSFHK Badminton schedule 2009-10.xls

U16 Girls Change in Schedule Feb 9

U16 Girls - VSA(HS) has withdrawn - Schedule has been updated. All teams now have a Bye.

Updated Schedules

Hi Everyone,

Sometimes you debate whether to email an updated schedule - because as often happens another change is required........

I have made a few corrections to schedules concerning venue changes & dates, a slight adjustment to U14 Girls schedule. Plus I have noted what i believe are the schools/teams affected by their No Play dates.

Open link to see changes tournament Schedule & Venues - Feb 9th.doc

However, just waiting for schools to confirm change is OK.

In an earlier email I stated that we have gone to a Tournament based competition, due to the number of NO Play days sumbitted by schools. I have attached original document I shared with coaches meeting held last month. No Play days.doc

Weeks chosen for tournaments were based on - How many schools were least affected. Therefore as a result if a school was unable to make a tournament it would be their repsoncibility to make up matches or forfeit.

Playing Days- The ISSFHK has adopted the following days for playing matches.

Tuesday - Middle School U12 & U14 Boys & Girls
Wednesday HS - U16 & U20 Girls
Thursday -HS U16 Boys & 20 Girls

As a result all games have been scheduled at these times

I am sorry If I have not been able to meet your requests. Once again if you have a comment to share please post it to the website so others can add to the conversation if applicable.

I will email AD's & coaches I have email addresses for anytime I update information on the website. Please use this website as it is the easiest way I can get information to people.

Feedback & Rules for This year

Hi Everyone,

Please find in below link feedback from questions raised about this years competition

Feedback from questions.doc

Thanks to those who shared their thoughts on the matter.

Here are last years rules -

issfhk_badminton_2008_9_rules_of_competition1.doc.

Major issues:

Starting time of 1st matches- Sportsmanship or Rules

I have been responcible for running a number of tournaments in a variety of sports and the one thing we cant afford is for games not to start & finish on time. Therefore, I would like to draw a few lines in the sand starting with starting times. At present we have lots of gray areas and we need to be quite clear of rules so no one feels offeneded.

Therefore, I would like to propose that the rules for all tournaments be the following.

Games must start at 4.00pm - for every 10 minutes of delay means offending team forfiet's the first single match, 20 minutes first doubles , 30 minutes second singles - forfiet's the match.

Player lists must be submitted 24 hours before scheduled matches.

Players who have lost matches through forfeit may not be exchanged to play in later games between school. Changes will be permitted - But an exchange of playing positions due to forfeits is not permitted.

At these tournaments schools will be expected to play 10-15 matches. Therefore, losing the first match may not be a big deal or even second match. However, the odds are certainly against you.

We need to start all games on time as we have between 6-10 schools playing at one time .

Time will be judged by Host school.

Finishing time for matches - Will be determined by host school and I suggest that hosting schools use a timer to count down time for matches - 60 minutes.

Last game : Based on number of games won, if this is even then by the points in the deciding game. One point advantage is required for last game to have a winner.

Teams will play in order as stated in 2008-2009 rules. If a match ends after the first 3 games then remaining games can be played as friendlies if time permits. Court must be available for the start of next round as they have priority.

We will remain with 5 players as minimum number required to field a team. Team sheets should be emailed to hosting school a 24hr before & changes can be made before the first match commences.

Badminton Team list & Score Sheet 2009-2010.doc

Shuttles for Tournament will be Tronex Yellow - this was used last year and we need to have consistent shuttles for all tournaments. Therefore schools hosting tournaments & championships will be supplied shuttles to run tournaments by the ISSFHK. The cost of shuttles will be shared by all competing teams and will be part of the fees for Badminton this year.

Next Issue Venues:

This an association made up of a number of schools and my apologies to those schools who I have not allocated tournaments. VSA & Discovery. Where possible I have tried to send at least two age groups to a school & if not a school close by. Whether it be the same age group or same gender plus and allocated schools tournaments where they have teams entered. Therefore, this schedule has seen a number of changes from original first draft.

Hostings schools if you have difficuly hosting tournament could you please notify me asap.

Championship Play off's

Grades with 8 or more teams will have Quarters, Semi's & Finals

Grades with less will have Semi's & Finals

Schools need to check the following:

1. All teams have been entered correctly in each grades

2. Check Tournament schedule for each grade to see if things are correct.

3. Inform convener & hosting school if you are unable to attend tournaments & make arrangements with other schools to make up these matches up at a later date. It is the responcibility of the school not able to play to arrange schedule for make up matches. Final date for all matches not played at tournament will Thursday April 15th.

I hope this website is an assistance and please add it as a favourite when checking information concerning Badminton.

If I have missed anything please let me know. I also trust that if you find a problem you can also supply a solution. My task as convener is to help and assist members of our association to run a well organised sports competition for Badminton.

Badminton Newsletter Number 3

Hi Everyone,

To help with the communication of information of Badminton I have created this web page as a link for AD's & Coaches to keep them in touch with what is happening with Badminton.

We have 12 teams & over 60 teams entered into this years competition. Team numbers have been changing, hopefully by end of this week they will be stable & the schedule completed.

We still have a few issues with Rules which is understandable & what schools will be hosting tournaments.

I have included all the feedback from coaches & AD's on a number of questions raised by one of our school members. These were not my questions - But they raised valid questions that needed to be shared with all those who are involved with Badminton.

My role is to convene Badminton - and where possible I will try to organise this years schedule as best as possible & to run a competition that people are happy to be involved in. However, there will be decisions made that some peopele may not agree with. but for the good of the kids we coach & work with - lets "Get on with playing Badminton".

So I will post Feedback in next posting on this webpage

This webpage is a short term measure to help communicate information on a wider basis as emails can be a bit narrow & people need to see the whole picture. If you have further feedback it can be shared on the webpage so others can see.
